Microsoft Web Platform

Microsoft has a new site and set of tools targeted at web developers. Microsoft /web seeks to simplify discovery, download and installation of web platforms and tools. At the heart of the platform is the new Web Platform Installer 2.0 RC which was released on 6/24/09 and seems to work well. According to Microsoft:

The Microsoft Web Platform Installer 2.0 (Web PI) is a free tool that makes it simple to download, install and keep up-to-date with the latest components of the Microsoft Web Platform, including Internet Information Services (IIS), SQL Server Express, .NET Framework and Visual Web Developer. In addition, install popular open source ASP.NET and PHP web apps with the Web PI.

While I think it's all pretty cool, it's still weird seeing a Microsoft product download and install PHP. ;)
