Personal Kanban

clock July 13, 2009 09:13 by author Chad Albrecht

Jim Benson has been writing a great series on the positive effects of Personal Kanban.  After reading his Tangible Tasks Produce Prioritization post I started thinking about using a card wall in Microsoft Outlook. Since I leave Outlook open all day, it would be a natural place for me to keep my card wall.  Additionally, if I could sync it with my Windows Mobile device, it may replace my current notepad and whiteboard system.  I have done some quick searches of the net and there doesn’t appear to be any solutions out there.  I am considering building the application myself.  Thoughts?  Would anyone be interested in this?

Twikini for Windows Mobile

Looking for a Twitter app for your Windows Mobile device?  I’ve been using Twikini for a few weeks now and love it!  When I first started researching Twitter apps for my phone, I considered writing my own.  I have found Twikini to have every feature I was looking for.  (thus saving me from having to write my own!)  Some of my favorite features include:

  • It’s super fast! (written in C++)
  • Simple interface.
  • Tweet on the left menu button.
  • ReTweet and reply using the arrow pad.
  • Very stable.

Here is a screenshot (from Trinket Software):

John McCaffrey has a good article on why I use Windows Mobile over an iPhone. The most important thing for me is Tethering.

Tag you’re it! (Microsoft style)

clock June 12, 2009 03:04 by author Chad Albrecht

Microsoft is working on graphic codes called tags that will allow your cell phone's camera to retrieve more information on whatever the tag is attached to. According to Microsoft:

Microsoft Tag connects real life with the digital world. Microsoft Tags are small, colorful codes that can be printed, stuck, or displayed just about anywhere. When you snap a Tag with the camera on your internet-enabled phone, additional information or experiences are automatically opened on your phone. There is no fumbling with URLs or texting short codes. Microsoft Tags can make product packages, posters, print-based ads, magazine articles, exhibit signage, billboards, storefronts, business card, or just about anything else, interactive.

As an example here is the URL to my website encoded in a tag:

There are a number of mobile apps that try to do this with regular UPC bar codes with limited success. I think this format could lead to some pretty cool retail applications. Think real time discounts and promotions as well as the analytics of that data. Hmm…

Amazon.com Kindle

I've heard that this little e-paper reader will change the world...it's pretty cool...but we'll see. They have a ton of pretty innovative ideas. No contract EVDO wireless, online doc conversion via email, cheap books and magazines, etc. For $399 it's definitely worth a look.
